Review | The Face Shop Chia Seed Sebum Control Moisture Water

Monday 13 June 2016

As I mentioned in my previous post on my current foam cleanser, I'm on a simple 3-step skincare routine especially in the morning that consists of a cleanser, a toner and a moisturiser which are all focusing on sebum-controlling property and this time I'll be reviewing the toner, Chia Seed Sebum Control Moisture Water from TheFaceShop

Product Description:
This toner is formulated with chia seed to moisturise skin and cotton seeds to remove sebum.
  • The Daily Pore Care that removes excessive sebum
  • Ethanol-Free formula Mild, Oil-free, Eco-friendly Moisture Care
  • Formulated with GMO-free, 100% Chia Seed Extract Fluid instead of Water.
How to:
As the first step of the skincare routine, dispense a sufficient amount of the product onto a cotton pad and gently wipe the face from the middle outwards.
Lightly pat the skin to absorb.

Capacity: 300ml

Packaging:

The toner comes in that huge bottle similar to Etude House Wonder Pore Freshner that I had few years ago. The theme colour used for this Chia Seed Sebum Control line is soft green and brown. I think I've mentioned this before, the sebum-controlling beauty products tends to have turquoise or green packaging. I think it gives appealing fresh vibe to us normal to oily skin people.

On the side of the box, there are product description printed in English and French. I've noticed the brand approached this method for labeling ever since they ventured into European market about 3 years ago I think. There's even official Canadian brand website. Truly happy with their marketing strategy for the brand to develop more.

There's the ingredients list as well and do note that they used chia seed extract in fluid form I'm assuming, as the main ingredient instead of water. The cotton seed extract is supposed to help with sebum absorption. There's also ceramide which is known for its moisturising properties as well. For preservative, the brand opted for phenoxyethanol

On the other side of the box, the brand tells us about the main focus of Chia Seed skincare lines in general. How they used 100% chia seed extract, formulated the products with effective moisture-hugging system and I love how the products are free from 7 additives.

The toner can be used in at least 3 different ways: as the last step in cleansing i.e. toning, as facial mist and if you're familiar with DIY paper sheet masks, you can soak it with the toner and put on your face like any regular mask.

Like any other regular toner, it can be used up until 12 months. Estimated period of usage for me if I were to use this everyday as toner is about 8 to 9 months.

Despite of its huge, not travel-friendly bottle, the best part is of course the push-down cap. It's super convenient. Just not push it too hard though.

There's the expiry date printed at the bottom of the bottle which is good as I cannot brain companies that print dates on the box packaging or on the distributor sticker which are meant to be disposed.

There's simplified product description also printed on the bottle but it's in Korean Hangul. It's great if you can read them.

Verdict:

When it comes to toners, I expect them to be able to at least remove any residue from my double cleansing step and it's definitely a bonus if it can remove dead skin cells for better absorption of the next product to be applied like serum or essence. This toner is indeed like that. When I see the residues on the cotton pads I feel assured that all of the visible impurities are taken care of.

I also love the fresh scent. It's not cooling or anything but it definitely gives me fresh sensation as well. Combining this  toner with the moisturiser from the same skincare line, I just love the smooth finish after applying them on my face.

I ordered this toner via KoreaDepart (non-affiliate) for USD17.60 (~RM72) exclusive shipping fee but it's available in local TheFaceShop stores here in Malaysia for RM120+ inclusive GST. I don't see this product being offered at the Malaysian online store though as I'm assuming it's too heavy and most of the time PosLaju don't allow for you to post liquid products anyway.

I actually first got the product as a 5ml sample from Instagram seller and I instantly love it. I got the deluxe sample size in a travel kit that I got back in January. It's really convenient to have these bottle as I can just refill them whenever I want to bring some for travel.

Final verdict: 5/5. I love everything about the product. It does its job so well and its ample in amount so I'm satisfied with the price I'm paying for plus I got this with free shipping as I purchased over USD200.
